The San Cristobal Hill Mountain Bike Tour is a route created for passionate MTB riders who possess previous experience of Mountain Biking (single tracks). The tour includes a cable car ride up to San Cristobal hill, and a 2 hour adventure of technical routes (dirt, gravel and pavement roads) with different degrees of difficulty and inclination where we get to enjoy excellent views of the city surrounded by nature.
We start the tour at Plaza Baquedano and begin to pedal in the parks and cycle paths alongside the Mapocho River (30 minutes) until we make our way to the San Cristobal hill access (Pedro de Valdivia). We place our mtbikes in the bike rack and hop on the cable car, leading us to the top of the hill (at 880 m/ 2900 ft), accompanied by great views of the city and its mountains.
We visit the viewpoint Mirador Bellavista Terraza where we will first give safety instructions for starting our ride down. We will bike down for 10 minutes and leave the pavement road to take alternative MTB trails. These trails are approximately 1 meter - 3ft 3 inch wide of different difficulty levels, XC style, applicable for front suspension bike frame. The trails border the San Cristobal hill allowing us to enjoy a fantastic panoramic view of the whole city along its vegetation, parks and squares around us.
After our first round, we will bike up the next hill: Los Gemelos, inside the Metropolitan Park, until we reach the summit; Pablo Neruda Amphitheater. From here, we start a different MTB circuit to less known dirt and gravel trails of the Metropolitan Park.
These trails connect to the Vitacura district, where we begin to ride a 10 km (6 miles) down through Bicentennial Park and the many bike paths in Providencia district, until arriving back in our starting point Metro Baquedano.
